The Little Shore Khao Lak by Katathani Review: All-Inclusive on the Andaman, Honestly Assessed
Khao Lak operates on a different scale from Phuket. The road north from the airport takes seventy minutes and deposits you on a stretch of Andaman coast that the package-holiday infrastructure has not yet standardised — longer beaches, quieter water, fewer jet skis, the karst formations of Phang Nga Bay visible on the horizon to the south. The Little Shore Khao Lak by Katathani opened in 2024 on Nang Thong Beach, and it arrived at a moment when the Andaman coast’s premium market was beginning to understand that what it had — the quietness, the proximity to the Similan Islands, the quality of the Andaman light in the dry season — was worth building around rather than apologising for in comparison to Phuket. The property does not apologise. Every room has a private pool. Every guest eats well. The beach is outside the door and the bill, for the things the all-inclusive covers, has already been paid.
The Property
A boutique-scale all-pool-villa resort on Nang Thong Beach, operated by the Katathani group — the same family that runs Katathani Phuket Beach Resort at Kata Noi and The Shore at Katathani adults-only villa property on the same beach. The Little Shore is the Khao Lak expression of the group’s formula: private pools throughout, all-inclusive structure, genuine kitchen investment, and a service culture that earns its repeat guests rather than chasing new ones. The property opened in April 2024 and the newness shows in the right ways — everything is clean, the fixtures are current, the technology works. It also shows in the way any young resort shows its character: the team is still finding its rhythm in certain departments, and the consistency of a property that has been operating for a decade is not yet present at every touchpoint. What is consistent, across virtually every recent guest account, is the warmth of the staff. That quality is either present or it is not, and at The Little Shore it is present.
Guest room access to The Sands by Katathani next door — the sister property — is included, which effectively doubles the pool and beach options without doubling the rate. Staff will transport guests to the main road by golf cart for evening dining or shopping in Khao Lak town, which is a specific and useful operational detail that several guests have noted with genuine appreciation.
What the All-Inclusive Covers — and What It Does Not
The all-inclusive package covers all meals: buffet breakfast, served lunches and dinners from either set menus or à la carte with a THB 1,100 per person allowance, and beach lounger lunch service. Drinks are included from a selected list — this is where the caveat sits, and it belongs here rather than at the end of the review. The selected drinks list does not include all cocktails available at the bar, and guests who arrive expecting the full cocktail menu to be covered will encounter the selection boundary during their first evening. The list is adequate for most guests and frustrating for guests who want specific cocktails that fall outside it. Additionally, the sister property next door operates a similar but different selected drinks list, which produces the specific incongruity of being able to order certain cocktails at one property but not the other on the same rate. The management has acknowledged this feedback and is working on it; confirm current drinks inclusion scope directly before booking if the cocktail situation matters to your stay.
For guests not on the all-inclusive rate — or for any drinks beyond the included selection — the à la carte bar prices are at the upper end of Thai luxury resort pricing. One detailed guest account from November 2025 reports cocktail prices of approximately THB 390, which the guest (on their eighth visit to Khao Lak) describes as comparable to Australian bar prices. This is not a complaint about the quality. It is an accurate description of the rate, and it explains why the pool bar is quieter than the beach bars nearby. The solution for guests who want unlimited cocktails without restriction is the all-inclusive drinks upgrade, available at booking.
The Restaurants and Food
The kitchen is where The Little Shore makes its strongest case. The breakfast buffet — with Andaman Sea views as the permanent context — covers the full range from Thai to international with the quality of produce that reflects genuine kitchen investment rather than bulk sourcing. The dinner menus engage with southern Thai culinary tradition as the starting point rather than the decoration, and the made-to-order approach within the à la carte allowance allows enough flexibility to eat seriously across a week rather than cycling through a fixed rotation. The all-inclusive dinner structure — set menu or à la carte to allowance — is a format that suits guests who want to eat well without thinking about the bill, and The Little Shore executes it at a standard that justifies the approach.
The Beach and Pool
Nang Thong Beach is one of Khao Lak’s accessible stretches of Andaman coast — not the longest or quietest beach in the region, but a proper beach with the Andaman water quality that Phuket’s more crowded south and west coast beaches are not always able to deliver. The beachfront pool sits where the pool meets the sea, with cabanas and loungers managed without the territorial competition that larger properties produce. The compact scale of The Little Shore means that the beach and pool are never genuinely crowded, which is either the property’s primary appeal or its primary limitation depending entirely on what the guest came for.
One recurring note from guests: the fixed beach shades mean sun positioning cannot be adjusted as the day progresses. Arrive at the beach early and claim a position that works for both morning and afternoon sun. Lounger reservation is not encouraged; the scale of the property means it is rarely necessary.
Who This Resort Is For — and Who Should Look Elsewhere
The Little Shore is for couples and honeymooners who want a genuine all-inclusive structure — all meals covered, private pool in every room, Andaman beach outside the door — in a property small enough that the staff know them within a day and large enough to deliver the amenity range without feeling sparse. It works well for families with children who want space and flexibility, with the Little Octopus Kids’ Club providing structured programming and the two-bedroom suite categories allowing genuine family room configurations with private pools.
Guests who want the widest cocktail selection included without restriction should take the drinks upgrade or confirm the current included list carefully. Guests who want the longest and most remote beach on the Andaman coast should look further north toward Khao Lak’s quieter stretches. Guests for whom the Similan Islands diving is the primary motivation will find The Little Shore’s position — with the group’s excursion arrangements available — a more practical base than Phuket. The property is seventy minutes from Phuket Airport; the transfer is worth arranging through the resort rather than independently.
